Blog 7 – Khalid
Hey, what’s up!
Check one, two… it’s Khalid Imam here. I’m currently a member of the sound and interface design team for our game in development ‘The Hierophant’.
In the earlier stages, I made myself an available asset to the art department in terms of further ideas and aesthetics; however, a lot of my own craft didn’t translate and/or fit in with the rest of the extremely talented crew (sketches of game characters, card layouts, concepts for readings/tarot room etc…). Obviously, I was doing all I could to be involved, but it came to a point where I was internally thinking that maybe I’m not best suited for this position. Funny enough, I was called in by Anna and later appointed by Justin for a new opportunity about a week after my realization.
Heading into the new year, I was then transferred to the interface design team where they construct the game’s overall appeal, layered with tech functionality. This section needed more help and found that my skills were better put to use within this department. Ever since my late arrival to the squad, I’ve been responsible for creating a unity demo for our start-up menu, implementing audio fx into the working build, and just being of further assistance throughout. My other involvement lies within the sound department which is lead by the ‘Audio Master’, Mr. Alex Villada. This area of the game has been my main focus from the start, as it allows me to fully demonstrate the audio skills that I’ve gathered along the years at Brock University. Such techniques include sound mixing (being able to keep all levels of audio at a central/unison frequency) as well as panning (being able to adjust audio to be heard from left to right). So far with the sound team, I’ve been able to design numerous soundscapes that align smoothly with the vibrant card animations done by the ‘Art God’, Bennett Wiens. Recently I’ve been focusing on producing tracks for the rock band in our game, called the Whyte Rose, with my teammate Alex and it’s been a blast!
I’m really looking forward to seeing how our final product turns out at Level Up and if it all goes according to plan. With how far we’ve all come, I’d definitely say there’s a whole lot to be proud of. My personal goal is to have enough input within The Hierophant game to use on my final portfolio and further pursuits.
Khalid.
